Newsletter April 2007

The Canoas Garden Neighborhood Association

Neighborhood Meeting.

Tuesday, January 29th, 7:00 PM

Canoas School Cafeteria .

Hello neighbors! Here is is January already, and time to elect a new Board of Directors. We'll do that at our Neighborhood Meeting on Tuesday, January 29th at 7:00PM in the Cafeteria at Canoas School. I want to thank everyone who has helped get our neighborhood association back up and running in 2007, especially the Board and Committee Members.

The Social Committee was especially active. They staged two Block Parties on Redbird and Lanewood, and resurrected the Neighborhood Picnic. You probably noticed a lot more decorated trees in our yards during the Holidays. The Social Committee is responsible for that, too! Their goal is to get decorated trees on all of our neighborhood streets next December.

This year the Social Committee is planning a Neighborhood Garage sale on April 19th, and Block Parties on Redbird and Kingfisher/Bobolink on June21s, so mark those dates on your calendars. We will be distributing fliers for these events to give you all the details. The Social Committee would like to every street in our neighborhood to hold a Block Party this year. If you would like to help organize a party on your street, call me, Bill Aaron, at 978-9678, or e-mail me at email@canoasgarden.org. The Social Committee will guide you through the process.

Our Demographics Committee got our website up and running and updated the neighborhood database. We hope to fully develop our website this year and make it a reliable source for neighborhood news. Check it out at www.canoasgarden.org. We have posted pictures of our neighborhood events, as well as pertinent informatoin about the Neighborhood Association. If you have suggestions or would like to help us develop our website, please give me a call or send me an e-mail.

The Beautification Committee plans to organize regular litter clean-ups and a beautification project. We could really use help on this committee. It is hard work and not as fun as the Social Committee, but it's very important and just as rewarding.

This year we would like to organize Emergency Preparedness Teams on each street in our neighborhood to take charge in an emergency like a flood or earthquake. Please get in touch with me if you can help out.

We have other projects in the works, too. Ralph Pearce is researching the history of our neighborhood, and we are developing a map that will show the exact extent of flooding that we have experienced.

There are many opportunities to contribute in our Association, but the easiest way is to send in your dues of $10 in the attached envelop. Thank you and I'll see you at the meeting on January 29th.
